Pursuit of Happiness

Nothing like the pursuit of happiness

To generate sadness.

Expectations give way

To disappointment.

When there is no meeting

Of the mind

Confusion reigns

And frustration rises.

When you try and try

Do everything that is asked

But leave out a little of this or that

And the little count more than the whole.

When ten words brings an

Hour of berating.

Things said last month are rehashed

And mixed with words a year old.

~

When the only word you wish to hear

Are, I love you.

Where any defense only begats

Anger and more harsh words.

~

Understandings lighten the load,

But cannot completely mitigate

The sadness

Left by the emptiness

~

Of the departed that

Walked away in anger

Without a word

And without concern.

~
